Budapest Spring Festival 2010

Welcoming the Spring of Arts in Budapest

For the 30th time this year, locals and tourists who visit the capital of Hungary can enjoy two weeks of arts - between the 19th of March and the 5th of April the 2010 Budapest Spring Festival will be organized; classical music and jazz concerts, dance performances, unique exhibitions and various programs will entertain audiences in several locations throughout the city.

Classical music will be represented by great names like the Budapest Festival Orchestra, the Hungarian National Philharmonics, the Liszt Ferenc Chamber Orchestra and their guests, pianist Denis Matsuev and trumpet player Gábor Boldoczki - a Beethoven Evening and a Béla Bartók concert will be on, and six of his operas of Hungarian composer Ferenc Erkel will mark 200 years from his birthday.
Those who like their music combined with movement, will be able to see a Stravinsky Evening featuring the Győr Ballet, and also Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía's  and the Royal Danish Ballet; fans of modern dance must watch the Arnie Zane Dance Company and Hotel Pro Forma, a dance formation that defies genre classification.
Denmark will be the special guest of the event - known for its colourful culture this country will also send their Ars Nova Copenhagen choir and their National Chamber Orchestra; at the gala opening the Ludwig Museum will welcome Danish artists and art groups in an exhibition entitled Power Games that examines current social and political problems as well as the role of contemporary art.
The festival will serve another mission as well, that of encouraging social responsibility, by introducing to the general public several artists of Rroma (Gypsy) origin; also the "Meeting of Worlds" event will gather international artists and famous personalities from all over the world, including viola player Yuri Bashmet, virtuoso percussionist Evelyn Glennie, Uruguayan singer Erwin Schrott - as a wonderful musical gift Nigel Kennedy will play Baroque and jazz, and Paco de Lucía will mesmerize listeners with wonderful Spanish rhythms and melodies.
The International Theatre Festival will be organized in this same period too: organizers will welcome internationally acclaimed productions and different companies experimenting with plays.
