Poland is a large country in Central Europe. It has a Baltic Sea coastline and is bordered by Belarus, the Czech Republic, Germany, Lithuania, Russia, Slovakia, and Ukraine. The countryside throughout Poland is lovely and relatively unspoilt. The region includes various landscapes, such as a sandy seaside with high dunes to the north, with lakes of glacial origin towards the middle of the land. The south includes a number of mountain ranges, the Tatra being the highest. The capital, Warsaw, is one of the most historical and important cities in Europe. The other major city, Krakow, is also a historical centre, with countless ancient monuments, and the largest European medieval market-place. Tourist attractions also include Zakopane, Poland's winter capital, the best starting point for hiking trips; Poznan, a merchant town and a host city of the famous international trade shows; and Gdansk, one of the most beautiful European cities.
