The Visual Pleasures of this Spring in BudapestCelebrating its 25th birthday in 2005, the Budapest Spring Festival will again await its visitors with a series of colorful and exciting programs. The visual part of these is expected to be a delight for the lovers of beauty and art. The opening event, organized by the Museum of Fine Arts, promises to be a sensational one: called "The Unknown Egypt" it will present the hidden faces of this ancient culture and its religion, after the influence of the Roman occupation and Byzantine Empire. Another interesting exhibition will be hosted by the National Gallery - gathered from local and international collectors, the rarely seen masterpieces of the famous 19th century Hungarian painter Mihály Munkácsy will be displayed. The public can also visit the Kogart House and get acquainted with the work of a contemporary painter, László Fehér, winner of the prestigious Kossuth Award. The House of Hungarian Photographers will hold an international conference to honor its artist, André Kertész, while the Academy of Fine Arts will show a selection of works by 20th century Hungarian sculptor Katalin Hetey. The Museum of Hungarian Agriculture will present the rich lifetime achievement of Ignác Alpár, one of the best known architects of the country, and the Artpool will try to reconstruct an underground art festival that was held in secret back in 1981. Salvador Dalí's illustrations featuring characters from literature can be seen in the Petőfi Literary Museum, the Ernst Gallery will display 25 works of art in order to recreate the atmosphere of the past 25 years, and the Dorottya Gallery will give the opportunity to adults and children to enjoy the "moving sound statues" of artist Rezső Móder. As it is quite obvious by now, the spring of 2005 in Budapest will be packed with events worth seeing - and these are only part of them, since the festival days between March the 18th and April the 3rd will offer a whole lot more to enjoy from theatre performances to concerts in virtually all musical styles. We'll keep you posted!
