Grassalkovich Castle - Hatvan

The town of Hatvan is located at the feet of the Matra mountain, along the Zagyva river, 60 kilometers east of Budapest, in Northern Hungary. Local sights include the Beerhouse, the oldest building in town, the St. Adalbert Church, the city hall, and the Grassalkovich Castle.
Using the ruins of the Hatvan Fort, Antal Grassalkovich built a castle between 1754 and 1763. The late Baroque style building has a 62-metres wide facade, ornamented with Corinthian pillars and a unique balcony. The family's code of arms is situated in the centre. The castle has beautiful interior spaces as well, under renovation at the moment.
