The city of Miskolc is located in northeastern Hungary, on the eastern side of the Buk mountain, in the valley of three small rivers: Szinva, Hejo and Sajo. The most prominent local sites include the cave spa in Miskolctapolca, the fort in Diosgyor, the national theatre, and the nearby Buk Nature Conservation Park.
The Miskolc Zoo and Culture Park is located at the feet of the Buk, surrounded by an oak forest. Originally a safari park, the zoo for the most par presents local animals and promotes nature conservation efforts. The propagation of endangered species is a top priority.
