The village of Opusztaszer, formerly called Sovenyhaza, is located in Csongrad County, west of the Tisza River, in the Pusztaszer Nature Conservation Area. Folk mythology holds that the Hungarian tribes entering the Carpathian Basin held their first general assembly here, and the leaders assigned places of residence to the tribes. Local sights include the Pallavicini Castle, and a panorama picture, painted by Arpad Feszty in the Rotunda.
The memorial park offers a glimpse into Hungarian history through archeological, historical, art, arts and crafts, ethnical and natural science exhibitions, accompanied by colorful programs and various special events. The outdoor section is open from the end of March until the beginning of November. The indoor section closes for the end of December beginning of January only. In general, it is open every day except for Monday, from 9am until 4pm. Opusztaszer National Historical Memorial Park - nearest hotels
