The Nyugati Railway Station is located at the north-eastern part of downtown Budapest. The long city ring connects it with the Danube at Margaret-Bridge, close to Margaret Island. The northbound Vaci Avenue starts off from beside the station, leading to the heart of Pest, the Deak Square area in the opposite direction. Today, the historic railway station for the most part hosts suburb train lines.
The railway station as it stands today, was established in the 1870�s. At the time, the iron construction of the main building was a most unique architectural advancement. The main wing is 42 metres wide, 146 metres long, and 42 high in the centre. Next to the railway station, the WestEnd City centre invites visitors with a great variety of shops, restaurants, places of entertainment, and a hotel. Trains to Budapest Airport leave from the Western Railway station. Travel time is 25 minutes, 2-3 trains commute each hour.
